West Ham's auctioning of Boleyn memorabila
Just read that they are selling the remaining John Lyall gates and historical memorabilia as part of the auction.

I can't fucking believe the club are doing this...surely they can find somewhere to put these even it is at the training ground, or a football museum?!

The thought of the gates being sold to some rich fucker and not being able to seen again makes me feel sick.

Poor, poor showing from the board this imo.

Meant to say. I saw it in today's Standard, assuming it's the same photo.

Of course they will sell it, that's the old West Ham. Apart from playing on former heroes for emotion/money they could not give a fuck about the Boleyn era West Ham.

History STARTS in 90 odd days.

I can't get why they are selling the locomotive engine plate
For years that was part of the Main stand
It's one of only twenty such plates and as such featuring our club it's the only one
Why sell it ?

£5K for a set of Lyall gates seems like a bargain to me.

Sam Allardyce's spittoon, complete with forty five pieces of used gum. 20 pounds

A collection of John Lyall's cigarette end butts. 30 pounds

A selection of Glen Roeder's Game Plans. 10 pounds

A urinal used by the 1986 first team squad. 300 pounds
That's piss taking

Re: West Ham's auctioning of Boleyn memorabila
The things that would be worth preserving would be those that date back to the original Boleyn Ground. Over the years though there has been a regular renewal of items and this means there is not much to keep that is of any real significance.

Re: West Ham's auctioning of Boleyn memorabila
Th club owes The Davids about 50 million quid and they're not getting any younger. The new ground doesn't belong to us so we can't chuck all our old shit in there for safe keeping.

Let them have their boot fair and keep the money but I want it shown on the accounts.

Re: West Ham's auctioning of Boleyn memorabila
Have to agree with Johnson, what main parts are being preserved as a reminder of the place?

The gates should have been kept as they were put up, not just the 'main part' taken away.

I also think they should have kept the statue where it is, as it would have been a fitting reminder of the place. They could have built a new statue at the OS....but I guess old Karen would have run that through the calculator and decided it would cost too much!

Re: West Ham's auctioning of Boleyn memorabila
I thought the gates went to the new ground?

In any case they're not the originals anyway. I'm sure I was told they were replaced not so long ago, which if it's true then seems like nobody battered an eye lid when that event took place.

I don't get memorabilia myself. Like the seats...why do you want that?! Or a shower head from the changing room?

Probably another thing to be jealous about, people who get a lot out of inanimate objects.
